In a bold step towards modern urban planning, Karu local government council in Nasarawa state has kickstarted a street naming and house numbering exercise across the area.

The project, launched in collaboration with G Code Global Services Limited, is designed to improve urban organisation, ease service delivery, and boost emergency response systems.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Karu, the Chief Executive Officer of G Code Global Services, Mr Gaza Auta, described the exercise as a game changer for residents, visitors, and service providers alike.

According to him, the project will standardise addresses, enhance delivery of utility and postal services, and support government interventions.

“The initiative will provide critical data for town planning, infrastructure development, and future expansion,” he said.

He explained that G Code Global Services is responsible for mapping and data collection, conducting surveys, and creating digital maps of communities.

Naming streets and numbering houses will be done in consultation with community stakeholders to ensure cultural appropriateness.

Auta added that residents are encouraged to participate by suggesting street names, verifying details, and updating documents to reflect the new addresses.

The current phase of the project, which began in February, is expected to continue over the next three years.
