The Nigerian Army has stamped its authority at the Armed Forces of Nigeria International Service Archery Championship, sweeping 20 medals, including a staggering 14 golds, to emerge overall champions.
The four-day contest, held in Abuja, saw the Army outclass rivals from the Navy and Air Force with a masterful display of focus, precision, and discipline.
In addition to their gold haul, the Army secured three silver and three bronze medals, solidifying their dominance.
The Nigerian Navy finished second with 14 medals—one gold, six silver, and seven bronze—while the Air Force claimed third spot with 13 medals, comprising six silver and seven bronze.
Representing the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Sayo Olatunde, hailed the event’s role in boosting non-kinetic strategies vital to national security.
He emphasized that archery’s demands for discipline, focus, and excellence mirror the strategic qualities needed in military service.
“Every arrow loosed is a reaffirmation of the core values that define our Armed Forces—accuracy, determination, and relentless self-improvement,” Gen. Musa said.
The event also served as a platform for building camaraderie among the services and for scouting talent for future national and international archery competitions.
Air Vice Marshal Nanjul Kumzhi, Director of Sports at Defence Headquarters, praised the technical brilliance and sportsmanship displayed by the 60 participating athletes, underscoring the championship’s success in strengthening bonds across the military.
