Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the 2027 general elections will not be a contest between political parties but a battle between Nigerians and the current administration.
Reacting to the recent wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, Atiku stressed he holds no grudges, describing freedom of association as a fundamental democratic right.
In a post on his verified Facebook page, Atiku said, “The coming political battle is not APC versus PDP, or LP versus APC.
It is Nigerians versus an administration that has plunged the nation into untold suffering.”
He decried the worsening state of the nation, lamenting that the economy is collapsing, inflation is strangling citizens, jobs are disappearing and youth restiveness is rising to alarming levels.
“Nigerians are not just tired — they are angry, and rightfully so,” Atiku added.
The 2023 PDP presidential candidate emphasized that democracy hinges on the people, the rule of law, credible elections and accountability, warning that undermining any of these pillars will cause democracy to crumble.
