UK based Nigerian footballer Lucas Akins has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for causing the death of a cyclist in a tragic road incident in West Yorkshire.

Akins, who plays for Mansfield Town in League One, pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court to causing death by reckless driving.

The court heard that the 38-year-old striker collided with 33-year-old cyclist Adrian Daniel while pulling out of a junction.

Daniel sustained severe head injuries and died 10 days later in 2022.

The court ruling brings closure to a case that stunned fans and raised concerns about road safety awareness among public figures.
