FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has summoned area council chairmen and leaders of the Nigeria Union of Teachers to an emergency meeting over the prolonged strike by primary school teachers in Abuja.

Wike, visibly upset during a project inspection on Thursday, blasted the council heads for failing to pay teachers despite receiving over four billion naira from the administration.

He accused them of diverting funds and acting without conscience.

The striking teachers, under the FCT branch of the union, are demanding payment of minimum wage arrears, allowances, and salary adjustments.

They have also called on the EFCC and the National Assembly to step in.

Wike appealed for calm and promised to resolve the crisis quickly, urging the teachers to suspend the strike while action is taken.
