In a push toward self-reliance and institutional strength, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has unveiled plans to staff 80 percent of its workforce with internal professionals before the end of the Executive Chairman’s tenure.

This strategic shift, announced on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Communications and Advocacy, Collins Omokaro, is designed to curb excessive outsourcing and foster operational excellence from within.

“Overreliance on external contractors has created knowledge gaps and inefficiencies. By building from within, we aim to boost service delivery and reduce costs,” Omokaro stated.

The recruitment process, already underway, focuses on attracting skilled professionals while prioritizing transparency and merit.

Senior officials are overseeing the drive to ensure fair and competitive selections.

Beyond hiring, FIRS is also ramping up staff development. “We are investing in training, mentorship, performance management, and leadership growth.

“New hires will receive structured onboarding and continuous evaluations,” Omokaro noted.

The move is part of the FIRS 2025 Strategic Roadmap, which centers on people, innovation, and operational excellence.

To promote transparency, the agency has launched a “Work With Us” video series, offering insights into the recruitment process from top officials.

“The 80 percent target underscores our commitment to national development. By investing in our people, we are building a future-ready FIRS,” Omokaro concluded.
