The World Bank has lauded Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, founder and chancellor of Baze University, for his outstanding efforts in advancing quality education in Africa.

During an official visit to the university’s Abuja campus, the World Bank’s Regional Vice President for Western and Central Africa, Mr. Ousmane Diagana, described the institution as a beacon of African-led excellence.

He praised its state-of-the-art infrastructure and academic environment, highlighting its role in human capital development and innovation.

“I am happy to see a university of this standard built by an African and led by Africans,” Diagana said. “Institutions like Baze University are crucial to Africa’s transformation.”

Senator Baba-Ahmed, in his remarks, expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s continued support for development in the Global South.

He showcased Baze’s achievements, citing a stellar postgraduate record and plans to launch a flying school to bridge the skills gap in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

“In 2019 alone, 30 out of 31 Baze graduates earned distinctions from UK postgraduate programmes,” he noted.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Jamila Shu’ara, said the university boasts 6,985 students, 920 staff members, and over 3,400 graduates.

She described Baze as a forward-looking institution harnessing smart technology and inclusive policies, with accreditations from nine professional bodies.

The visit included interactive sessions with students and faculty on education’s role in solving Africa’s challenges and development financing.
