Abuja: Soap Theft Lands Three in Court

Three factory workers were on Wednesday arraigned before the Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing cartons of Nico soap valued at five hundred and fifty thousand naira.

The accused — Sani Saleh, aged 30; Margaret Goji, 38; and Victoria Timothy, 32 — all staff of Amigu Plastic in Idu Industrial Area, were charged with criminal conspiracy and theft by servant.

According to police prosecutor Charity Nwachukwu, the case was brought to light when the factory owner’s wife reviewed CCTV footage and discovered the theft.

The trio were caught on camera removing the soaps without permission on April 4.

The matter was reported the next day at Kado Police Station by Mr Zheng Jilong.

Investigations led to a confession by the defendants, and the stolen products were recovered.

The alleged offences are in violation of Sections 97 and 289 of the Penal Code.

Chief Magistrate Musa Jobbo granted bail to the defendants in the sum of one hundred thousand naira each, with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned to May 29 for hearing.
