Former senator Shehu Sani has mourned the passing of veteran journalist Stanley Yakubu, paying a heartfelt condolence visit to the family of the late Punch correspondent in Kaduna.

Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, visited Yakubu’s residence in Ungwar Romi where he met the journalist’s four daughters and relatives.

Describing Yakubu as fearless and committed to justice, Sani recalled their encounters dating back to the 1990s.

“I have known Stanley since the 90s. He was a fearless reporter who wielded his pen against injustice,” Sani said. “He was always at his desk, writing stories, meeting deadlines, and fighting for a better society.”

He encouraged the deceased’s children to uphold their father’s legacy of truth and resilience and pledged his support towards the funeral arrangements.

Yakubu’s daughter shared that her father died peacefully in his sleep following a long battle with illness, which worsened after the loss of his wife years earlier.

Stanley Yakubu is remembered as a principled journalist who used his voice for the voiceless and lived a life of courage and service through the written word.
