A 19-year-old sales representative, Miss Rejoice Inuwa, has landed in hot legal waters after she was arraigned on Wednesday before the Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing nearly half a million naira from her employer.
The teenager, who worked at Green Grace Garden in the Karmo area of the Federal Capital Territory, is facing two counts bordering on criminal breach of trust and theft.
According to the police, Inuwa was entrusted with handling sales at the business premises but allegedly vanished on April 2 with N495,500.
The complainant, Grace Ojobo, a resident of Agura Staff Quarters in Karmo, promptly reported the incident.
“The defendant, an employee of the complainant, was entrusted with handling sales at Green Grace Garden,” Prosecutor Charity Nwachukwu told the court.
Inuwa was later arrested and reportedly confessed to the crime during police interrogation.
However, she was unable to give a satisfactory explanation for the missing funds, and attempts to recover the money have so far been unsuccessful.
Chief Magistrate Musa Jobbo granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
The surety, the court ruled, must be a responsible citizen with a verifiable address and a valid means of identification.
The case was adjourned to May 29 for hearing.
