Tension and grief have gripped the Federal Capital Territory following the murder of Dr Kunle Adenijis, a National Director of the All Progressives Congress (APC), by kidnappers who killed him after collecting a ransom from his family.

Dr Adenijis was abducted in February while heading to his brother’s home in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja.

Armed gunmen attacked, taking him, his brother, and his brother’s wife, Esther, who was shot and later dumped in a remote area in Niger State.

The abductors initially demanded three hundred and fifty million naira. Despite fifty million naira being paid by the family, the kidnappers failed to honour the agreement.

Instead, they killed Dr Adenijis, whose lifeless body was later discovered, sending shockwaves across the political and public spheres.

His brother and son, also taken during the attack, were eventually released alive.

The brutal killing of the senior APC official has sparked outrage, with many questioning the effectiveness of Nigeria’s security architecture and the growing boldness of criminal gangs across the country.
