The Presidency has pointed accusing fingers at state governors over the escalating insecurity across Nigeria, asserting that many have failed in their constitutional duty to protect lives and property.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, issued the strong rebuke in a statement from Abuja, noting that governors have neglected critical responsibilities such as supporting the police and aiding intelligence gathering.

Citing the persistent violence and abductions in states like Benue, Plateau, Taraba, and Zamfara, Onanuga argued that the situation could improve if governors played their part more effectively.

“Rather than always blaming the Federal Government, governors should fund logistics, ensure the welfare of security personnel, and act decisively to restore peace in their regions,” he said.

The Presidency’s position comes amid growing public frustration over widespread insecurity, with critics now questioning the commitment of state leaders to front-line defense against violent crime.
