Governors Unite Behind State Police Plan

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has announced that all thirty six states in Nigeria have declared support for the establishment of state police.

Speaking after a National Economic Council meeting, the governor said the worsening security situation and the scarcity of security personnel across the country have made state policing a necessary path forward.

He explained that the vast and often ungoverned spaces in many parts of Nigeria have overwhelmed the current security framework, prompting unanimous agreement among governors on the need for a decentralised policing system.

Although the states have submitted their individual positions backing the proposal, final discussions have been postponed to allow for broader stakeholder consultations and a comprehensive review by the NEC Secretariat.
