The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party is in no shape to contest and win the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a live media parley in Abuja on Friday, Wike said the party lacks the structure, focus and internal cohesion required to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He dismissed the party’s readiness as a façade, comparing it to a student pretending to prepare for exams without serious study.
“The truth is, PDP is not prepared for 2027. You cannot deceive yourself and expect results,” he said.
Wike’s blunt assessment comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition parties to form a united front ahead of the next elections.
His remarks cast fresh doubts on the strength and strategy of the PDP, which has struggled with internal rifts since its loss at the federal level in 2015.
The former Rivers State governor, a key player within the party, has often criticised PDP leadership for its failure to build consensus and present a clear vision.
His latest comments may further deepen the party’s crisis as the race to 2027 begins to take shape.
