The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced the commencement of a new road network in Giri District, a move he says will unlock the area’s development potential.

Speaking during an inspection tour in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike said the three-kilometre road under construction is strategically designed to open up Giri, home to the University of Abuja and the Economic and Financial Crimes Academy.

“We believe with what we are doing there, the district will be opened up and development will spring up in no distant time,” he said.

Wike revealed that the contractor handling the project has assured its completion and readiness for inauguration by May.

He also disclosed similar timelines for the 16-kilometre Idu-Dei Dei Road on the Inner Northern Expressway, as well as a network in Dakibiyu District and the road leading to the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the projects, describing them as tangible steps towards fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Road network improves connectivity and will encourage people to settle and do business in rural communities instead of migrating into the city,” he said. “That is what we are trying to do—to bridge the urban-rural divide while keeping our promises to the people.”

Wike added that while the road leading to the Court of Appeal would be ready in May, the court facility itself is projected to be completed by September.
