Panic and sorrow returned to Karu Bridge in Abuja on Friday as another fatal accident reportedly claimed multiple lives, just weeks after a similar disaster rocked the same spot.

Eyewitnesses say a truck carrying cement lost control while descending the steep Kugbo hill due to brake failure.

The truck ploughed through several vehicles before coming to a halt, leaving a trail of mangled metal and lifeless bodies.

In the chaotic aftermath, commercial motorcyclists chased and intercepted the truck at Karu Roundabout as the driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene.

The tragedy echoes the deadly crash in March, when a Dangote trailer powered by compressed natural gas lost its brakes at the same location, leading to the deaths of several commuters and widespread devastation.

Friday’s accident has renewed concerns about road safety and the frequent brake failures of heavy-duty trucks plying Abuja’s busy roads.

Authorities are yet to release an official death toll, but eyewitness accounts suggest a high number of casualties.

As the community mourns yet another loss, residents are calling for urgent government intervention to prevent Karu Bridge from becoming a recurring site of tragedy.
