Fourteen golfers have secured their spots to represent the Federal Capital Territory at the upcoming National Sports Festival in Ogun State, scheduled from May 16 to 30, 2025.

The final list comprises seven men and seven women who emerged from a keenly contested qualifying event held at the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.

Over 50 hopefuls vied for a place on the team in a competitive showdown that drew attention from golf lovers and dignitaries alike.

Among the notable faces at the qualifiers was former First Lady of Kogi State, Faridah Wada, whose presence added colour and inspiration.

Though she did not compete for a spot, she described her participation as a show of support to uplift and encourage the younger generation of golfers.

Head coach Adeniran Olanrewaju expressed confidence in the selected squad, saying preparations will begin immediately to ensure peak performance at the national event.

“We are going for medals and our training starts now,” he said.

One of the qualifiers, Olalere Olakunle, described the selection as tough but rewarding, adding that the team is poised to make the FCT proud when the festival tees off in May.
