Panic has gripped the Otobi community in Akpa district of Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State, following a fresh attack by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday evening.
The assault, which occurred around 5:30pm, left many feared dead and forced residents to flee their homes in terror.
Although the exact number of casualties remains unclear, the atmosphere in the area is one of fear and uncertainty.
Confirming the incident, Benue State Police spokesperson, Sewuese Anene, told journalists that the situation is still unfolding.
“There was a call from the Otobi community and officers were dispatched there. But the officers who were sent are still there and they have not sent a report,” Anene stated, indicating that full details of the attack are yet to reach the command.
This latest attack adds to the growing wave of insecurity plaguing parts of Benue State, where repeated assaults on rural communities have continued to raise concern among residents and authorities.
As investigations continue, there is growing anxiety over the safety of those who fled and the need for urgent government intervention to prevent further bloodshed.
