The forgery case filed against the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu, was on Wednesday stalled due to the absence of Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Ilela at the Dutse Magistrates Court in Abuja.

Maikalangu was expected to be arraigned on allegations of submitting forged First School Leaving Certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission in 2013 and 2021 for councillorship and chairmanship elections.

The case, instituted by All Progressives Congress member and AMAC resident, Awalu Mohammed, has been rescheduled for April 24.

Mohammed alleged that the certificates and accompanying affidavits were deliberately falsified, an action he said contravenes the Penal Code.

He claimed to have secured certified documents from INEC and the FCT Tribunal as evidence.

Counsel to the complainant, Job Israel, told journalists that the magistrate was initially present in court but was summoned away by higher judicial authorities, leading to the adjournment.
