The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed it is making swift arrangements to arraign popular street-hop artiste Habeeb Badmus, widely known as Portable, before a magistrate court in Ilorin on charges of alleged defamation.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, announced the development in Ilorin on Sunday, following Portable’s arrest in connection with a petition filed by renowned fuji musician Okunola Saheed, famously known as Osupa.

According to the police, Osupa’s petition levelled serious allegations against the controversial singer, accusing him of criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and the use of abusive and insulting language.

SP Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed that police detectives had acted lawfully and secured an arrest warrant from the magistrate court to proceed with the investigation and subsequent arraignment.

“In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the command secured a valid arrest warrant from a magistrate court sitting in Ilorin,” she stated.

She added that the police remain committed to upholding the rule of law and due process as they move towards prosecuting the case.
