The newly appointed Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Ajao Adewale, has called on residents of Abuja to embrace traffic regulations and support efforts to restore order on the city’s roads.
Reacting to the worsening gridlock that has paralysed key areas of the capital, CP Adewale stressed that strict adherence to traffic laws is vital for easing congestion and safeguarding lives.
In a statement issued on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner described compliance with road rules as both a civic responsibility and a lifeline for national progress. “Respecting traffic laws reduces congestion in busy areas and prevents needless accidents,” he affirmed.
CP Adewale also took a firm stand against illegal parking, street trading, and roadside hawking, practices he said are contributing to chaos on the roads and endangering public safety.
“The police are not adversaries; we are partners in progress,” he declared, urging residents to respect law enforcement officers and comply with regulations to build a safer and more orderly city.
He further warned that anyone who assaults officers or obstructs their lawful duties would face the full weight of the law.
The police chief concluded by appealing for public cooperation, stressing that a collective effort is essential to achieving smooth traffic flow and preserving public order in the FCT.
