As Christians worldwide mark Palm Sunday, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has urged Nigerians to embrace unity, peace, and servant leadership, drawing inspiration from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

In a statement released on April 13, CAN extended warm greetings to the faithful and all people of goodwill across the nation, calling for deep reflection on Christ’s message of humility and sacrificial love, which remains crucial in these challenging times.

Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, a moment filled with hope and humility.

CAN noted that this significant event offers profound lessons for Nigeria, especially as the country grapples with insecurity and growing social tensions.

Expressing deep sorrow, the association condemned the recent wave of violence in Plateau State, particularly the attacks of April 4 in Bokkos and Mangu, which claimed dozens of innocent lives.

CAN described the killings as a painful reminder of the nation’s fragile peace.

The association urged leaders at all levels to uphold justice and compassionate governance, emphasising that servant leadership, as demonstrated by Christ, is key to mending divisions and restoring trust among citizens.

As Holy Week begins, CAN called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to peaceful coexistence, encouraging communities to shun violence and embrace dialogue in pursuit of a more united and prosperous nation.
