It was a night of thrilling action and celebration as Zamalek Sports Club of Egypt clinched the African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship title at the indoor sports hall of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

In an all-Egyptian final, Zamalek overcame archrivals Al Ahly in a pulsating encounter, sealing a 3 to 1 victory.

The opening set saw Zamalek dig deep to edge Al Ahly 29 to 27 in a tense battle.

Al Ahly fought back in the second set, capitalising on Zamalek’s early errors to claim it 25 to 22. But Zamalek, determined to reclaim momentum, dominated the third set 25 to 20, punishing their rivals with powerful spikes and tight defence.

The defending champions kept their foot on the pedal in the fourth set, closing out the match 25 to 22 to retain their crown in style.

Earlier in the day, KPC of Kenya and CF Carthage of Tunisia clashed in the third-place playoff, adding more excitement to an already electric atmosphere in the Nigerian capital.

The final whistle sparked wild celebrations from the Zamalek team and their supporters, bringing the curtain down on a memorable championship.
