The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Ijalo, the prime suspect in the brutal murder of Alhaji Awoyinka Sumaila, a prominent building materials dealer in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area.
Ijalo was apprehended on April 10 in Osogbo, Osun State, following what the police described as a discreet and painstaking investigation.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olushola, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday in Akure.
Sumaila was gunned down on March 1 at his residence opposite Caring Heart Mega School in the Idi Mango area of Ore, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Olushola revealed that police operatives recovered a locally made pistol, believed to have been used in the killing, as well as criminal charms during a search of the suspect’s residence.
“The arrest was the result of an intense manhunt which led our operatives back to Ore,” Olushola stated, assuring the public that the command remains committed to flushing out criminal elements from the state.
The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to bring Sumaila’s killers to justice and restore public confidence in the security of the region.
