The House of Representatives Committee on Area Councils has raised serious concerns over the design and planning of two major road projects in Kwali Area Council, Abuja, demanding comprehensive details from the supervising agency.
During an oversight visit on Thursday, the committee, led by Chairman Frederick Agbedi, questioned the integrity of the engineering designs for the fifteen kilometre A2 Pai road and the eleven kilometre Yangoji Sukuku road, both under the supervision of the Satellite Towns Development Department.
Agbedi criticised the absence of detailed blueprints necessary for proper project execution, insisting that full documentation be submitted by Monday.
He also challenged the rationale behind installing solar streetlights along routes in sparsely populated areas, raising doubts about the safety and practicality of such plans.
Officials from the development department explained that the road designs were produced in collaboration with contractors and assured the committee of a one year maintenance provision upon completion.
However, the lawmakers expressed dissatisfaction, pledging to engage the Federal Capital Territory Ministry to ensure greater transparency and more rigorous planning in the delivery of infrastructure projects.
“We need clear and detailed plans that guarantee safety and value for public funds,” Agbedi declared, underscoring the committee’s commitment to holding project managers accountable.
