The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has debunked a widely circulated list of ambassadorial nominees, urging the public to ignore the misleading information flooding social media.
In a firm statement issued on Wednesday, the Acting Spokesperson of the ministry, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, clarified that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu retains exclusive authority to appoint ambassadors, stressing that no official list has been released.
“Please disregard the excitement surrounding the ambassadorial list,” Ebienfa stated. “Rest assured that once it is finalized, the President will forward the list of nominees to the National Assembly for proper review and confirmation.”
The ministry assured Nigerians that any authentic announcement would be made through official channels, not through speculative posts online.
This clarification comes amid heightened public curiosity over Nigeria’s diplomatic appointments, especially following the President’s recall of all ambassadors in September last year, a move that left several key foreign missions without permanent envoys.
The ministry’s intervention aims to curb the spread of falsehoods and maintain public trust as the nation awaits the unveiling of its next set of foreign representatives.
