The Federal Government has drawn a clear line against the infiltration of questionable individuals into the leadership of the prestigious Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, gave the firm assurance on Friday during the inauguration of the club’s new Board of Trustees, chaired by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem.

Wike made it clear that while the golf club remains a public facility, the Federal Capital Territory Administration retains the authority to intervene decisively against any form of mismanagement or abuse.

“The facilities have not been privatized,” Wike declared, stressing that the FCTA is fully within its rights to take action if the club’s affairs are mishandled.

The Minister urged the new board to jealously guard the reputation of the club, ensuring that only individuals of unquestionable integrity are entrusted with leadership roles.

“You must ensure that credible people are elected into office. Do not allow characters of questionable background to take charge of this important facility,” Wike charged.

He praised the choice of Justice Dongban-Mensem to lead the board, describing her as a woman of integrity and a symbol of credibility.

The newly inaugurated board is expected to reposition the IBB Golf and Country Club, restoring its status as a symbol of excellence and a hub for elite sportsmanship in the nation’s capital.

With this bold move, the FCT Administration has sent an unmistakable message that mediocrity and misconduct will find no foothold in the management of one of Abuja’s most iconic recreational centres.
