The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative is set to seal a six million dollar investment deal to launch the Arete mini Liquified Natural Gas project aimed at expanding CNG access in Northern Nigeria.

Kenechukwu Chukwu, the Technical Assistant on Stakeholder Management and Public Engagement for PCNGI, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.

He revealed that the signing ceremony will take place on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the PCNGI headquarters in Abuja.

Chukwu stated that the project marks a major step in President Bola Tinubu’s drive to make affordable gas-powered transportation a nationwide reality and push industrial development through domestic gas usage.

Highlighting a lineup of upcoming milestones, Chukwu said a presidential briefing on the progress of the CNG initiative is scheduled for April 7.

Other key events include an agreement with public sector unions for CNG conversions for 200,000 workers, tricycle rollout with youth groups, and the commissioning of refueling stations across major cities.

Chukwu also noted upcoming programs with the military and police for fleet conversions and technician training, alongside the operationalisation of the autogas supply framework.

He concluded that from May through June, the initiative will launch multiple infrastructure sites across universities, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to a clean and efficient energy future.
