All eyes are on Oyo as preparations reach fever pitch for the historic coronation of the 46th Alaafin, Oba Akeem Owoade, set to hold on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

The state government has rolled out tight security across the ancient city to ensure a hitch-free ceremony. Security operatives have been strategically deployed to key areas such as Jabata, Isale Oyo, Akesan, and Owoade, with visible presence of police and allied forces.

The main event will take place at Oliveth Baptist High School in Oyo town, with Governor Seyi Makinde expected to lead a powerful delegation of dignitaries.

The guest list includes foreign diplomats, respected traditional rulers, and more than 200 Oyo indigenes traveling in from Canada.

Other major venues hosting parts of the ceremony include Durbar Stadium, Ladigbolu Grammar School, and the Alaafin’s Palace, where cultural displays and royal rites will be featured.

Oba Owoade officially received his staff of office on January 13, 2025, and completed the sacred Oro Ipebi rites on March 29, sealing his place as the revered custodian of Oyo’s royal heritage.

The upcoming coronation is expected to be a cultural spectacle of tradition, unity, and celebration.
