Panic gripped passengers on Thursday morning as a LAGFERRY vessel caught fire at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu, Lagos, leaving several injured.

The incident occurred around six in the morning amid heavy traffic caused by the closure of Independence Bridge at Ahmadu Bello Way, Marina.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly, ensuring all passengers were evacuated.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority confirmed that the vessel, Igbega Eko, was en route to Victoria Island when the fire broke out.

While there were no fatalities, four passengers sustained minor injuries and are receiving medical attention.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, with LASWA and LAGFERRY promising enhanced safety measures across the waterways.

Despite the scare, ferry operations continue as scheduled, and commuters have been urged to remain calm and adhere to safety protocols.
