Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Dakar, Senegal, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the country’s sixty fifth Independence Day celebration.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Mr Stanley Nkwocha, confirmed this in a statement on Thursday.
Senegal marks its Independence Day on April 4 every year, commemorating its liberation from French colonial rule in 1960. The celebration features parades, cultural performances, and national ceremonies.
This year’s event will be held at the Place de la Nation in Dakar, with President Bassirou Faye hosting Vice President Shettima alongside other dignitaries from across Africa and beyond.
Nkwocha noted that Shettima’s presence at the event follows an invitation from President Faye, reflecting the strong diplomatic ties between both nations.
The vice president is expected to return to Nigeria on Friday after the one day event.
