The Federal Road Safety Corps has called for stricter enforcement of truck safety regulations following a deadly tanker explosion on the Nyanya–Maraba expressway.

FRSC Spokesman Olusegun Ogungbemide, speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, blamed the crash on a Dangote truck with faulty brakes.

He warned that poor vehicle maintenance, speeding, and reckless driving remain major threats to road safety.

While Nigeria has no nationwide restrictions on truck movement, he noted that the Federal Capital Territory limits truck operations during peak hours.

He highlighted FRSC’s safety measures, such as pre-loading checks and routine inspections, aimed at preventing similar tragedies.

Ogungbemide urged authorities to implement better transport alternatives to reduce highway risks and reaffirmed FRSC’s commitment to safer roads.
