Tragedy struck in Abaji as a trailer loaded with cement crashed at an army checkpoint along the Abuja Lokoja road, leaving two dead and 17 injured.
Witnesses said the driver, coming from Lokoja, lost control near the checkpoint, slamming into a concrete barricade and causing the truck to overturn.
Some passengers were seated on top of the cement when the accident occurred.
One person died instantly, while another was later found trapped under the cement. Their bodies were taken to the morgue at Abaji General Hospital.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, who confirmed the incident, said 22 people were involved, with the injured victims receiving treatment at Abaji General Hospital and Ayaura Primary Health Center.
