Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has assured swift justice for the 16 travelers brutally killed in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The victims, hunters traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, were mistaken for criminals by a local vigilante group.

On a condolence visit to Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, Okpebholo expressed deep sorrow over the killings and reaffirmed the strong historical ties between the Hausa community and the people of Edo.

He assured that those responsible would face the full wrath of the law, revealing that 14 suspects had already been arrested and transferred to Abuja for further investigation.

Governor Yusuf, in response, condemned the killings and insisted on public accountability for the perpetrators.

He commended Okpebholo for his prompt response and urged authorities to ensure justice is not delayed.

Both governors later visited Toronkawa village in Bunkure Local Government Area, calling for peace and unity. Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has ordered a full-scale investigation, with his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, confirming that security agencies have been directed to act swiftly.
