In response to the gruesome killing of travelers in Uromi, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate suspension of all illegal vigilante groups operating in the state.

The governor also suspended the Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, retired Commissioner of Police Friday Ibadin.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, revealed that the local vigilante group responsible for the March 27 killings was unregistered and never profiled under the state’s security framework.

The statement emphasized that the group’s actions do not align with the core values and security principles of the Okpebholo administration.

Authorities have so far arrested fourteen suspects in connection with the killings, while a special police team intensifies efforts to track others involved.

The Edo State Government assured citizens of its commitment to justice and is working closely with the families of the victims, community leaders, and the Kano State Government, as most of the deceased hailed from Kano.

Governor Okpebholo urged calm, promising a thorough and transparent investigation into the tragic incident.
