The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party that the revocation of its land title in Abuja was a deliberate move to stifle opposition.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday during a visit by officials of the Body of Benchers, Wike clarified that the action was strictly due to non-payment of ground rent for over ten years.
He noted that PDP, despite generating billions from nomination forms, failed to settle its N7.6 million obligation for its National Secretariat land in the Central Area.
He further revealed that Wadata Plaza, where PDP’s headquarters is located, is not officially registered under the party but in the name of a senator who has defaulted on ground rent for 28 years.
Dismissing claims of political bias, Wike stated that the revocation affected 4,794 defaulters, including institutions like the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He urged all landowners, including the Body of Benchers, to fulfill their financial obligations, warning that no defaulter would be spared.
