The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into Zeberced Quarry in Kubwa, Abuja, over the excessive use of explosives, following growing concerns from residents.
The decision came after Hon. Ismail Kavode Tijjani moved a motion on Thursday, highlighting widespread complaints about health risks, structural damage, and environmental violations linked to the quarry’s activities.
Residents have raised alarm over constant noise pollution, weakened buildings, and deteriorating roads caused by frequent blasts.
Despite repeated concerns, authorities have yet to take regulatory action.
In response, the House has tasked its Committee on Solid Minerals with investigating the matter and, if necessary, revoking Zeberced’s operating license.
The quarry has also been directed to repair the damaged roads as part of its corporate responsibility.
This move signals a strong stance by lawmakers in addressing environmental hazards and protecting the welfare of Abuja residents.
