The Confederation of African Football has asked Egypt to take over as host for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations following Côte d’Ivoire’s sudden withdrawal.
The tournament was set to begin on April 26, but CAF is now considering a new start date to allow Egypt time to prepare.
Côte d’Ivoire’s decision to step down has created uncertainty around the prestigious competition, which serves as a key platform for young African footballers.
Egypt, having successfully hosted the tournament in 2023, is seen as a strong replacement due to its world class facilities and experience in organizing international events.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will compete in Group B alongside Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa, setting the stage for intense battles in the group phase.
With time running out, all eyes are on Egypt as stakeholders await confirmation on whether it will step up to ensure the tournament goes ahead without disruption.
