Nigeria and Spain have taken a bold step to deepen their diplomatic and economic relations with the signing of a landmark agreement aimed at fostering mutual growth and stability.
At a high-level meeting in Madrid, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation of Spain, José Manuel Albares, and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, formalized a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations.
The agreement establishes a structured framework for continuous dialogue and collaboration in key sectors such as economic development, security, education, energy, and climate action.
Nigeria, a major force in West Africa, holds a crucial position in Spain’s Africa Strategy for 2025 to 2028.
In return, Spain, as an influential European Union member, plays a vital role in shaping relations between Africa and Europe.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability, particularly in the Sahel and West Africa, emphasizing the importance of ECOWAS in promoting peace and economic progress.
They also addressed global concerns, including the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine, pledging support for international law and global peace efforts.
The new partnership marks a significant milestone in Nigeria and Spain’s long-standing cooperation, paving the way for greater economic and diplomatic engagement.
