Chaos broke out along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja on Wednesday as an angry mob barricaded the road following the alleged killing of a commercial motorcyclist by the Federal Capital Territory taskforce.

The violent clash started at Galadima and spread from EFAB bridge to the Public Service Institute, Dutsen Alhaji, forcing many motorists to seek alternative routes.

Eyewitnesses said the enraged protesters set up bonfires on the expressway, leading to a partial shutdown of traffic. In response, police officers fired tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd.

Amid the tension, a policeman attempting to escape the scene was intercepted near the Charley Boy area and severely beaten, though the driver of the vehicle managed to flee.

FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, stating that one person was reportedly killed.

“The incident happened between the taskforce and Okada riders. One person is said to have been killed, and we are investigating to confirm the details,” she said.

On reports that a police officer was killed in the clash, she dismissed the claims, urging the public to disregard such reports.
