The National Identity Management Commission has condemned the unauthorized printing of National Identification Number cards by some organizations and cybercafes, warning that offenders will face legal action.

Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, stated in Abuja on Monday that no individual or group has been permitted to print NIN cards or replace the official NIN slip.

He described the practice as illegal and a violation of the NIMC Act No 23 of 2007.

Adegoke stressed that only the NIN slip remains the valid proof of identity and warned against the use of unauthorized cards.

He added that security agencies have been instructed to arrest anyone found using or distributing fake NIN cards.

To address the issue, the commission is set to launch an upgraded General Multipurpose Card, which will provide a secure physical means of identification.

The initiative is supported by the AfriGO local platform.
