The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescued 23 children from a suspected trafficking syndicate disguised as an orphanage in Kubwa, Abuja.

Acting on intelligence, police operatives raided Mother Deborah Orphanage on March 20 and arrested the owner, Ijeoma Andy, along with another suspect.

Among the rescued children was a three-year-old believed to have been stolen from Kaduna, while the others, aged between two and fourteen, were also taken into protective custody.

FCT Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said Andy could not provide a credible explanation of how the children ended up in her facility, deepening suspicions of human trafficking.

Authorities are now working to track down other accomplices, urging residents to report suspicious activities via the police emergency lines.
