The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, delivering a decisive ruling on the party’s leadership crisis.
In a unanimous judgment by a five-member panel on Friday, the apex court ruled that issues concerning the leadership or membership of a political party are strictly internal affairs and should not be subject to court intervention.
The court overturned the decision of the Court of Appeal in Enugu, which had on December 20, 2024, upheld Anyanwu’s removal by a Federal High Court.
It declared that the lower court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the suit filed by Aniagwu Emmanuel.
With this ruling, Anyanwu, an ally of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, remains the authentic National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, settling the prolonged legal battle over his position.
