Nigeria Launches First Solar-powered Vehicle Charging Station in Abuja

Nigeria has taken a bold step towards green energy with the launch of its first solar powered electric vehicle charging station in Abuja.

The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Electric Motor Vehicle Company, unveiled the facility at the Energy Commission of Nigeria headquarters.

Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, described the project as a milestone in Nigeria’s shift towards sustainable energy.

He said it aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and demonstrates the country’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.

Director-General of the Energy Commission, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, revealed that the station is equipped with fast-charging technology, capable of fully charging an electric vehicle in just 30 minutes.

The facility operates using both public power supply and solar photovoltaic systems, with a 20 kilowatt lithium battery and an intelligent inverter ensuring efficiency.

The initiative marks a significant leap in Nigeria’s transition to clean energy, paving the way for the wider adoption of electric vehicles across the country.
