The National Automotive Design and Development Council has launched a training programme in collaboration with OMAA Motors to equip 60 technicians with skills to convert petrol vehicles to compressed natural gas-powered vehicles.

The programme, which commenced in Owerri on March 18, will run until March 21, aiming to boost Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, NADDC Director General Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin stressed the need for a skilled workforce to attract investors and expand CNG infrastructure nationwide.

He also highlighted the recent launch of a Mobile Refill Unit in Lagos, set for nationwide deployment to support the growing fleet of converted vehicles.

Osanipin encouraged trainees to obtain conversion certificates to kickstart their careers as certified technicians.

He added that NADDC is working with gas providers to establish CNG fueling stations for sustainability.

Representing Governor Hope Uzodinma, Commissioner for Youth Dr Emeka Mandela commended NADDC’s foresight and pledged state support.

He also announced that the government would fund licenses for four trainees and empower more youth in the future.
