The National Blood Service Agency (NBSA), has made an urgent call for blood donations to aid victims of the recent tanker explosion on the Aya Karu expressway in Abuja.

In a statement on Thursday, the agency’s Director General, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, stressed the critical need for blood supplies as hospitals struggle to save the lives of those injured in the tragic incident.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the explosion occurred on Wednesday at about 7 PM when a Compressed Natural Gas truck lost control and crashed into another vehicle.

The accident resulted in six deaths, while 18 vehicles were engulfed in flames. The total number of injured victims remains unknown.

Survivors have been taken to various hospitals, including the National Hospital, State House Clinic, Karu General Hospital, and Customs Clinic in Karu, where they require immediate medical attention.

Prof. Yuguda urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to step forward and donate blood, emphasizing that even a single donation could be the difference between life and death for those in critical condition.

“Your generosity can save lives. We encourage all eligible donors to visit designated blood centers and hospitals across the FCT,” the agency stated.

For those willing to donate, the NBSA headquarters at 39 Abidjan Street, Zone Wuse, is open to receive donors. Inquiries can be made via 07088370905.

As rescue efforts continue, this is a crucial moment for collective action to provide life-saving support for the victims.
