A suspected thief met his downfall in dramatic fashion when worshippers at a mosque in the Dutsen Alhaji community of the Federal Capital Territory caught him attempting to steal a motorcycle during Ramadan prayers.

The suspect, identified as Haruna Sani, reportedly traveled from Nyanya Gwandara and joined the congregational Taraweeh prayer.

However, he abruptly ended his prayers and attempted to escape with a parked motorcycle.

Abdullahi Bello, one of the worshippers, recounted the moment the bike owner noticed the theft and quickly pursued the suspect.

“He terminated his prayer and ran after the man, managing to jump onto the moving motorcycle. Both of them fell, and other worshippers rushed to apprehend him,” Bello said.

A local vigilante confirmed that the suspect was taken to the district head’s palace, where the police were alerted.

The police later took custody of the suspect while the stolen motorcycle was returned to its rightful owner.

Authorities have confirmed the incident, urging residents to remain vigilant during the Ramadan period.
