Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged residents to remain calm and trust in democracy as the state navigates the emergency rule declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking on Wednesday March 19, 2025, a day after his suspension alongside his deputy and lawmakers, Fubara insisted that Rivers remained stable under his leadership despite political tensions.
He blamed the Rivers State House of Assembly for frustrating peace efforts despite his willingness to implement the presidential peace deal.
Dismissing claims that the crisis had crippled governance, Fubara stated that salaries were paid, projects were ongoing, and security was intact.
President Tinubu justified the emergency declaration by citing worsening tensions, including the bombing of two oil pipelines by suspected militants.
Fubara, however, vowed to explore all legal and democratic avenues to protect the state’s interests while urging citizens to remain law-abiding.
