Abuja to Host African Karate Championship in 2025

Nigeria is set to welcome the continent’s best karate athletes as the National Sports Commission confirms Abuja as the host city for the African Karate Championship from July 25 to 27, 2025.

NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko announced the development after meeting with Bechir Cherif, Vice President of the World Karate Federation, and Silas Agara, President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria.

Dikko described the event as a major step in boosting Nigeria’s sports infrastructure and attracting international tournaments.

He assured that the country has the budgetary backing and a strategic plan to upgrade facilities ahead of the competition.

He emphasized that the move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to strengthen Nigeria’s sports economy, create jobs, and engage the youth.

The championship is expected to draw top karate athletes from across Africa, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a growing force in global sports.
