The House of Representatives has passed four key tax reform bills, setting the stage for a major overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system.

The bills, submitted to the National Assembly in October 2024, aim to streamline tax administration, eliminate multiple taxation, and boost revenue collection.

Lawmakers say the reforms will ease the tax burden on low-income earners and improve transparency in the system.

The approved bills include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, the Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.

They also propose an ombudsman to resolve tax disputes swiftly.

With the House’s approval, the bills will now proceed to the Senate for concurrence before being sent to the President for assent.
